National Skating Month allows U.S. Figure Skating member clubs and Basic Skills programs to reach out to new members in the community by offering the fundamentals of ice skating from professionally trained instructors.
Below are a variety of ways the Rockford Park District is celebrating National Skating Month.
“Skating is a skill you will use your entire life. The Rockford Park District offers a variety of lessons, clinics, and camps for youth beginning at 18 months, so you are never too young to start skating, and you are certainly never too old to start skating,” said Monique Bailey, Figure Skating Director.

Learn to Skate – Take a Lesson
The Rockford Park District’s skating program is designed to help children and adults achieve their goals, whether they pursue any ice sport recreationally or competitively. The skating curriculum that is followed is known as the Basic Skills program. The curriculum is designed by U.S. Figure Skating, and is publicly endorsed by USA Hockey, U.S. Speedskating, and Special Olympics.
