Rockford Park District Receives 2018 Exceptional Workplace Award
ROCKFORD, IL – Working for the Rockford Park District is a way of life, as everything in the organization revolves around “helping people enjoy life” and improving the quality of life for our citizens. Currently, the Rockford Park District employs 165 full-time team members and 1,441 seasonal team members who are all the reason the District received the 2018 Exceptional Workplace Award. This distinguished award was presented recently to the Rockford Park District from the Illinois Parks & Recreation Association (IPRA). The recognition term as an IPRA Exceptional Workplace is a five-year honor.
The District submitted an application, and was graded on six health and wellness categories:
Each of the six categories required a detailed description of how the Rockford Park District allows team members to grow, give back to the community they serve, participate in continuing education opportunities, and take part in a variety of wellness and diversity initiatives. The Rockford Park District earned a perfect score of 50 points.

We value the health and wellness of our workforce. An exceptional and healthy organization is able to provide better, higher quality services to the citizens we serve, and at the same time, lower healthcare costs for taxpayers. The Park District has a family-first mentality, a diverse workforce that fosters an open, inclusive, and progressive work environment, plus we embrace employees’ differences, as those characteristics add to our unique culture,” said Rhashonda Williams, Superintendent of Human Resources.
Every year, 600 youth get their first job experience with the Park District, oftentimes these youth become lifelong employees, including some who go on to pursue parks and recreation as a career.
