State of Illinois Awards DCEO Legislative Grant for Rockford Playgrounds
ROCKFORD, IL – Thanks to a partnership between Rockford Public Schools (RPS 205) and Rockford Park District, an exciting announcement will be made at a joint media event at the STEAM Academy at Haskell School, 515 Maple St., Rockford, Illinois, at 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2019.
Senators Steve Stadelman and Dave Syverson will be in attendance to present the Rockford Park District and RPS205 with a $170,000 Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) playground grant.
The Rockford Park District and RPS205 will each match the grant with $100,000 that will allow replacement of playgrounds at Lewis Lemon Elementary School, and at Terry Lee Wells Park at the STEAM Academy at Haskell School. Also included in the funding is $25,000 for refurbishment of each playground at the former Walker Elementary School and the former White Swan Elementary School sites. Both Walker and White Swan will be transferred from RPS205to Rockford Park District later this year. The Park District will use this funding to improve the existing playgrounds by repairing or replacing worn parts to comply with industry safety standards.
Total funding for the four playgrounds is $350,000. Jay Sandine, Executive Director of the Rockford Park District, commented, “During our community-wide meetings, we heard loud and clear that our citizens’ top priorities are our beautiful parks and playgrounds. We are so thankful to Senators Stadelman and Syverson for their continued support of our community and families.”
