Rockford Park District Honored for Sustainability
The Rockford Park District was among 25 companies and organizations to be honored for their commitment to sustainable business and operations during the Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Award ceremony which took place on November 1, 2016 in Chicago.
For thirty years, the Illinois Governor’s Sustainability Awards have been presented by Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) to organizations in Illinois that have demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through outstanding and innovative sustainability practices. Sustainability is a way of life in the Rockford Park District from project design to day-to-day operations.
New educational exhibits, responsible toxin disposal, energy efficient lighting and water savings upgrades, spray pad renovations, and the establishment of a district wide tree program all fulfill the economic, environmental, and social aspects of true sustainability. The result is a savings of citizen’s tax dollars and a reduction in demand of natural resources. This is the second time the Rockford Park District has received the award.
