Investing in Neighborhood Parks! The Rockford Park District is in the process of applying for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to update the playground at Brown Park. If the Rockford Park District receives this grant, we would be able to utilize $600,000 to renovate the existing playground, and any remaining funds would be utilized to improve or add various park amenities. The playground is beyond its useful life and ready to be replaced. Neighborhood parks play a vital role in the health and well-being of our community and enhancing them continues to be one of the Rockford Park Districtβs highest priorities, as voiced by the citizens we serve.
We want your feedback! To guide playground renovations and consider possible additional amenities, we need your input! Pick which play features you like best and what park amenities would improve your experience at Brown Park. We want to make sure all residents have access to safe, high-quality recreational spaces. Along with a new playground, what other features would help you and your family enjoy Brown Park even more? Please share your input by completing the survey below by Monday, September 22, 2025.
An in-person meeting will also be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 10 a.m. to chat about the various options and provide a chance for us to hear your feedback. In addition to the playground renovation, Brown Park has also been identified as a potential solar/art installation location for a project being proposed by the Rockford Area Arts Council and ComEd. The suggested location is the northeast corner of the park near the basketball court. The Rockford Park District would like your feedback regarding this addition to your park as well.
