Brown Park Renovations

The Rockford Park District has received an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for $600,000 to renovate the existing playground and update park amenities at Brown Park.

The Rockford Area Arts Council, with financial support from ComEd, would also like to bring a solar art sculpture to Brown Park. The sculpture is called “The Beacon,” a solar lantern tower being designed by artist Shala. Feedback is also needed about the design of the solar art sculpture.

Timeline: Phase 1 of park renovations would take place in 2026. Phase 2 which includes the playground remodel will take place in 2027.

Did you know? Living near a well-maintained park or green space typically boosts property values by 8% to 20%.

Neighborhood parks play a vital role in the health and well-being of our community and updating amenities remains one of the Rockford Park District’s highest priorities, as voiced by the citizens we serve.
