Rockford Park District Strengthens Community Engagement Impact by Welcoming Steve Shannon

ROCKFORD, IL – A familiar voice in the Rockford community is taking on a new role with the Rockford Park District. Steve Shannon has joined the Rockford Park District as a Community Engagement Specialist, bringing more than 30 years of experience in radio, communication, and connecting with audiences throughout the region.

In his new role, Shannon will help strengthen the Rockford Park District’s connection with the community by focusing on how the Rockford Park District helps our community thrive through the power of play. This position reflects the Rockford Park District’s continued focus on building relationships throughout the community and helping people understand how the Rockford Park District improves the quality of life for citizens by providing a vibrant, inclusive, and relevant park system that increases property values, stimulates economic development, creates economic impact, increases positive outcomes for youth, and improves our community’s health.

“For more than 30 years, I’ve been blessed to share the stories of people doing remarkable things in this community. When I started thinking about where I wanted to take my passion for storytelling in this next chapter of my life, I kept coming back to the Rockford Park District, because my heart is deeply connected to this organization. I have experienced transformational moments personally, like watching my daughter dominate the field in the Rockford Park District’s NFL Flag Football program. I knew working for an organization whose entire motivation is to help our community enjoy life is exactly where I wanted to take my passion for storytelling in this next chapter of my life. What I loved most about being on the radio, I get to do daily with the Rockford Park District,” said Steve Shannon, Rockford Park District Community Engagement Specialist.

In his role as Community Engagement Specialist, Shannon will engage residents, community partners, businesses, and stakeholders to advance the organization’s mission and strategic priorities. He will lead community engagement and outreach initiatives by developing outreach strategies, coordinating events, cultivating and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders, and overseeing signature engagement efforts.
