Sand Park Pool
CLOSED FOR 2019
Sand Park Pool is CLOSED for the 2019 season. Closing the pool in 2018 saved the District $88,000, as a variety of repairs to the concrete, fencing, play features, and mechanicals was needed, which totaled roughly $40,000. In addition to pool maintenance repairs, the District spends roughly $48,000 in tax subsidy to operate each summer.
Remediation efforts will also be taking place along the entire eastern portion of the Sand Park Pool property as a new layer of dirt is added. It’s going to be very hard to navigate, and certainly not a very family-friendly environment with all the construction going on, so that was another reason why we decided to close the pool. We know this isn’t ideal, but it’s a mandate from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), so the work must be done.
We are all disappointed that we had to make the difficult decision to close Sand Park Pool during the mandated EPA remediation and improvement project. We know how much this pool means to many local families in our community like yours. Please know that our intent is to reopen the pool as soon as the remediation is complete and resources allow.
Feel free to contact Laurie Anderson, Superintendent of Operations, at 815-987-1614 or email@example.com if you have additional questions.
