Sports Factory hosts NJCAA Volleyball Tournament

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All In Volleyball Opening Weekend Tournament (OWT) expanded to four days this year to accommodate its continued growth at the Sports Factory.

For the Rockford Park District, OWT is about much more than providing a building with volleyball courts. The Sports Factory is nationally recognized as a premier indoor sports facility and recently earned a No. 9 ranking among 613 hard-court sports facilities across the country in the Sports Tourism Index. The recognition reflects the quality of the facility and its ability to deliver the high-caliber playing environment and guest experience that major tournaments like OWT demand.

This year, 89 teams from 17 different states will be utilizing the Sports Factory. The Rockford Park District’s facility and maintenance teams play an essential role in preparing the Sports Factory for an event of this magnitude.

“There are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes. We continually monitor facility conditions throughout the tournament, respond to the demands of a high volume event, and address issues as they arise. Our team takes tremendous pride in making sure the facility is ready, the courts are properly maintained for hours of continuous competition, and common areas, restrooms, entrances, and spectator spaces are clean, functional, and welcoming. We want athletes and families to leave knowing that the Sports Factory is a place where athletes can perform at their best,” said Milton Phillips, Sports Factory Facility Manager.
