Clarence Hicks Sports Complex
Clarence Hicks Sports Complex opened in August 2025 and is proudly serving as a premier destination for Rockford Park District's youth sports programs, community recreation, and tournaments. Home to programs such as NFL Flag Football, Rockford F.I.R.E. Track & Field, and Rockford Wolves Youth Football, this 77-acre facility is a state-of-the-art complex that brings together youth, teens, and families through the power of play.
The complex features a modern artificial turf field and stadium, a professionally designed eight-lane running track, dedicated areas for throw and jump events, and bleacher seating that can accommodate up to 1,000 people. A temperature controlled state-of-the-art press box is also on-site thanks to The VanVleet Family Foundation. In 2023, the Chicago Bears donated turf that had previously been used in the Walter Payton Center, the official indoor practice facility of the Chicago Bears. Itโs one of the most elite and high-quality artificial turf systems from Act Globalโs brand.
More than just a sports venue, itโs a vibrant community hub where young athletes develop physical skills, mental resilience, and lifelong character.

About Clarence Hicks
Clarence Hicks, or โCโ to many of his friends and colleagues, was a community servant, and impacted nearly every recreational program and activity provided by the Rockford Park District over his 42-year career. He made a difference, and touched the hearts and lives of hundreds of teens and adults in the Rockford community.๏ปฟ
Clarence exemplified the Rockford Park Districtโs mission statement, โHelping People Enjoy Life,โ and as a way to honor his legacy, the Board of Commissioners voted to rename Southwest Community Park to Clarence Hicks Memorial Sports Park in 2019.
The facility has since expanded and is now known as Clarence Hicks Sports Complex, and is utilized by thousands of youth and teens who participate in the Park Districtโs youth sports programs.
