Wentland Sports Complex

Playground Renovation Project Area Design Concept

The District has awarded a construction contract to Rockford Structures and the site is currently under construction. If weather permits, construction is expected to be completed late spring/early summer 2025.  The renovation will include a new playground, splash pad, and picnic area with shade structure. Renderings of the playground and splash pad are shown below.

Project History

The Rockford Park District is continuing to invest in neighborhood parks, a top priority for the citizens we serve. Currently, Wentland Sports Complex playground is an all-wooden playground and the last remaining one of its kind in the Park District. Our certified playground safety inspectors have removed a variety of play pieces over the years due to ongoing wear and tear and it is time to reimagine the play space. This is the only area of the complex that will be reimagined at this time due to limited funding and resources.

Playground Renovation Project Area

The Rockford Park District is working with Hitchcock Design Group (HDG) to plan the renovation of the existing playground area. HDG has prepared the Playground Renovation Project Area Plan and Concept Images shown below. The Plan shows a number of proposed improvements within the footprint occupied by the existing playground. Improvements include: a new playground with unitary playground surfacing, a fenced splash pad, a bag toss court, picnic shelter with drinking fountain, seating areas, landscape plantings, and new walkways.
